The Discover Ability Network has expanded its program with a new hub in the Halton-Peel region. The Discover Ability Network is a free, online job matching portal that connects people with disabilities seeking employment to Ontario businesses looking for talent. This new hub will connect businesses in Halton-Peel with local talent looking for work. Jobseekers and businesses can sign up, create a profile and begin accessing employment resources and recruiting talent.
Employers are finding it increasingly difficult to fill positions with the right talent, yet people with disabilities are an untapped resource with skill sets many businesses need. The Milton Chamber of Commerce was pleased to take a lead role in bringing the Discover Ability Network to the Halton-Peel community in an effort to connect more people with disabilities to rewarding jobs and more employers to new talent to help grow their businesses.
The new Halton-Peel hub is one of several regional hubs that will be created across Ontario to help bridge the gap between persons with disabilities seeking employment and local businesses looking to hire talent. The Discover Ability Network showcases the business advantages of employing persons with disabilities and provides employers with a roadmap to hire persons with disabilities. Training workshops will be offered within the community to teach businesses about inclusive hiring and help jobseekers match with employers.
20 per cent of Ontario’s population has a disability and almost 45 per cent of this population has postsecondary accreditation (Statistics Canada, 2017). Employers can benefit from an increased skilled labour pool, reduced costs associated with turnover, training and safety, and improved engagement of all employees.
Businesses can get involved by visiting the Discover Ability Network portal, signing up and posting a job opportunity. To learn more, visit https://haltonpeel.discoverability.network/ or email discoverability@occ.ca.
The Discover Ability Network Halton-Peel is funded by the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
